A blood sample is more than a specimen.

When sampling technique is poor, pre-analytical errors can occur. Haemolysis, inadequate specimens, contamination, incorrect collection or inappropriate handling can compromise specimen quality and may result in delays, rejected samples or repeat blood collection.
